Mr. Audinet and Mr. Larsen were asked to express their views by answering to the following questions. To listen to their replies, click on their names at the end of each question:

1.      The number of “high level conferences and consultations on food security” has been rising and several pledges and commitments are made by country governments in relation to fighting hunger and establishing food and nutrition security. In spite of this, the number of hungry people in the world continues to increase. Why is this so? What can be done?

Mr. Audinet, IFAD

Mr. Larsen, WFP

2.      Do you feel that UN food Agencies have a responsibility in this regard? In your opinion, what should be done to increase their influence and effectiveness in support of world food security?

Mr. Audinet, IFAD

Mr. Larsen, WFP

3.      How do you see your Organization’s role in promoting accountability, at both national and global levels, on issues related to the achievement of MDG 1? What recommendations would you make in order for them to be realistically accepted and followed by National Governments?

Mr. Audinet, IFAD (questions 3 and 4)

Mr. Larsen, WFP

4.      What role do you see for Civil Society Organizations in the quest for strengthening and promoting national accountability in stimulating government’s commitment and pledges towards eradication of hunger and malnutrition?  How can they partner with UN agencies in this regard?
